“Feather” Flight of Spaceship Two

Another innovative aviation company working with private funds – Scaled Composites in Mojave, CA is progressing toward flying a functional passenger-carrying aircraft to sub-orbital space.

Scaled’s pursuit of the Ansari X Prize, for flying their Spaceship One to space twice in a month kept me glued to their progress in the early 2000’s.  The innovative nature of this company – started by legendary aeronautical designer, Burt Rutan – is great to see.

The aerospace industry is fertile ground for creative thinkers, entrepeneurs, and adventurers.  How might the Spaceship Two concept influence spacecraft design in years to come?
